It’s hard to argue that Jay-Z is the best to ever pick up the mic when you notice how much attention he garners. His inspiration has bubbled over from the silver screen to the stage as 106 & Park and Hova collaborated for a special episode that’s set to air today [10/9] on BET.

With the show filmed in a secret location, which later came out to be Steiner Studios in Brooklyn – they were bused in from parts all over the Tri-State area. Even Public Relations Manager Tricia Newell met a person who came to the show all the way from the UK.

All this attention for the kid from Marcy Projects; it would be overwhelming for first time stars, but with Jay – it remained cooler than the other side of the pillow.

As Terrence J and Rocsi – hosts of the popular teen show – ask Jay inside a make-shift studio about his “retirement” to Lil Wayne – fans kept up a fervor even during the commercial time slots for the program. When it was all said and done, Brooklyn’s son came home to open arms and a lot of toothy grins.

But outside braving the cold, awaiting the god emcee to perform were about 200-300 kids just patiently standing around waiting for Jay to descend onto the stage. Having been only slated to perform two songs, Lucky Lefty says, “I got to do more for y’all since y’all have been waiting so long in the cold,” and performs “PSA,” “Roc Boys,” and ends with “Where I’m From.”

Everyone walked away in the freezing New York cold with warm smiles and a story to tell all their friends back home.

The program is set to air tonight at 6pm EST. Be sure to check your local listing for the appropriate channel.
