Trippie Redd is going back 18 years to sprinkle some classic flavor into his latest song.
On “I Got You,” released on Friday (September 11), the Ohio rapper interpolates Busta Rhymes‘ “I Know What You Want” and also gets a verse from the Flipmode founder. Lyrics from the 2002 hit are worked into the chorus of the Wheezy-produced track, with Trippie taking on Busta and Mariah Carey‘s silky hook.
“Baby if you give it to me/I’ll give it to you/You know that I got you/Shawty if you give it to me/I’ll give it to you/You know that I got you,” he sings.

Directed by Aidan Cullen, the video stars Trippie as a student at Pegasus High School, who is tasked by Busta to find out where his girlfriend’s mom is located. Trippie sets out on his flirtatious mission through student hallways and manages to find out where her mom has been hiding out.

Busta shared a message on Instagram, giving Trippie his ultimate respect and reflecting on the history of the record.

“Congrats young king on the amazing piece of work and being a part of a 17-year-old story/legacy of me, Mariah Carey and Flipmode Squad’s collab ‘I Know What You Want,'” Busta wrote. “Never been done before type legendary shit.”
Trippie first previewed “I Got You” in June. On August 18, the full version appeared on his Pegasus album which leaked in its entirety. No official release date has been announced yet, but the LP is available to pre-save on Spotify, Apple Music and Deezer.
“I Know What You Want” appeared on Busta’s 2002 album It Ain’t Safe No More… and peaked at No. 3 the Billboard Hot 100 chart. Shortly after the song was released, he described it as “something that people ain’t used to hearing me doing.”

“I definitely thought Mariah was the perfect person for it,” he told Rolling Stone in 2002. “That was the initial idea. I just wanted her to add her sexiness to it. I didn’t want nothing over the top or nothing elaborate. I just wanted the right vibe and the right voice tone, the right feel and the right breathing — the right sexy overall feeling. She was perfect for that.”
One thing’s for sure, Busta never imagined Trippie would be singing it. Trippie was just three-years-old when the original song came out.
