Lil Wayne’s 2009 mixtape No Ceilings arrived on all digital platforms Friday (August 28). While that was a reason to celebrate for most of Wayne’s nostalgic fans, some weren’t feeling the new version. Instead of the original 21 tracks, the digital version contains just 12 and doesn’t come with any of the skits.
The OG tape featured Wayne rapping over beats to several big songs and appearances from Tyga, Birdman, Nicki Minaj, Gudda Gudda, Lucci Lou, Mack Maine, Short Dawg, and Shanell. Beats included were JAY-Z’s “D.O.A. (Death of Auto-Tune)” and “Run This Town,” Beyoncé’s “Sweet Dreams,” Black Eyed Peas’ “I Gotta Feeling,” David Guetta’s “Sexy Bitch,” Gucci Mane’s “I Think I Luv Her” and “Wasted.”
Songs missing include “Ice Cream,” “DOA” and “Sweet Dreams,” but there is a bonus track included called “Kobe Bryant.” Wayne performed the song as a tribute to the late NBA legend at the 2020 BET Awards earlier this year.
Earlier this month, Wayne announced Carter VIand the third installment of No Ceilings imminent, telling ESPN, “Carter VI coming soon. But, I got No Ceilings coming first. No Ceilings 3.”

Wayne also connected with A$AP Ferg and Jay Gwuapo for the new single “No Ceilings,” which finds the A$AP Mob rapper paying tribute to the project with the line, “like Wayne, I got no ceilings.”
Presumably, some of the songs omitted from the updated version ran into some sampling issues and were unable to be cleared. Whatever the case, some fans were noticeably bothered and took their comments (and humor) to Twitter.
