After being signed in August 2006 with a much-talked about $1.5 million deal, Papoose has been officially dropped from Jive Records.

Kay Slay spoke on the new development on the radio. “We have officially gotten our release from Jive fuckin records. It was like a fuckin year of hell… Unfortunately, we almost became victims of A&R hell.”

“You cannot put a 60-something-year-old white man on a 20-something-year-old black kid’s project from Brooklyn, and think it’s gonna pop. And like I said this ain’t a bashing. It’s a reality. But by the grace of everybody’s… understanding, we are free. Free at last, free at last. Thank God Almighty, free at last. We are very happy, we’re popping champagne. We got our release from Jive Records, and we’re just moving on.”

Kay Slay further explained that Papoose and Jive “could not see eye to eye creatively.” When asked what was next for him and Papoose, Kay Slay only said “oh no, we can’t speak on that.
