If the early projections hold true, and Kanye West wins the first week sales battle of the Clash Of The Titans, it won’t be for lack of effort on the part of 50 Cent. Last night 50 came full circle, concluding his crusade through New York City with the last two performances of his 5-borough tour, in the place where hip hop started (the Bronx) and where it started for him, (Queens.)
The New York City Police were abound (plain clothes, horse mounted included,) and a 4-block radius was barricaded, so safety wasn’t issue for the capacity crowd that converged at the Rum Jungle for the final stop. Opening with selections from the newly released Curtis, he and the original G-Unit cohorts (Tony Yayo, Lloyd Banks and yes Young Buck) interspersed a few of their solo records into the hit filled catalogue of 50, that maintained the high octane pace of the show. Jim Jones, the supporting act for a good part of the trek, was a no show, but that didn’t deter the mind games leveled at opposing crews. Fifty recited the hook, “My niggas don’t dance, they just pull up there pants and do the rock away and Lean Back,” and what was thought to be a verbal jab at rival Fat Joe, was elevated a little as Terror Squad defector Remy Ma, joined the G Unit collective to put down her verse. (It was reported that J Hood, formerly of the Jadakiss, Styles P, Sheek Louch helmed D Block, performed in the Bronx.) After “Amusement Park”, 50 cleared a path on stage to ring out what he called an inspiration, the original king from queens LL Cool J. 50 left the stage with the message “I still gotta shake hands and kiss babies. I love y’all for loving me.”

The tour, sponsored by Pontiac, allowed him to get up close and personal with his core fans in small, intimate venues. The venture also allowed 50 to continue his existing relationship with Pontiac. Recent endeavors have included the Pontiac Garage where 50 Cent performed during the MTV VMAs, the appearance of the Pontiac G6 GXP Street in his music video “Amusement Park,” and a contest in which that car can be won and delivered by 50 himself.
