‘Fresh Prince Of Bel-Air’ Cast Can’t Stop Crying As They Pay Tribute To The Late ‘Uncle Phil’

For the last episode of Will Smith’s Snapchat show Will At Home, the blockbuster movie star rounded up The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air cast — DJ Jazzy Jeff, Karyn Parsons, Tatyana Ali, Alfonso Ribeiro, Daphne Maxwell Reid and Joseph Marcell — to play catch up.

The two-part finale featured a tribute to the late James Avery who played the wealthy, tough talking (yet lovable) judge Uncle Phil on the iconic ’90s sitcom. During the conversation, Smith starts to tear up as a montage of some of Avery’s scenes roll across the screen. It soon becomes clear not a single member of the cast is able to hold back their tears.

Ali, Reid, Parsons are all visibly crying, while Jazzy Jeff — even behind his sunglasses — appears choked up. Marcell breaks up the heaviness with, “As James would say, ‘Solid!'”

As the montage comes to a close, Smith is moved to share how important Ali, Reid, Parsons, Marcell, Ribeiro, Jazzy Jeff and, of course, Avery are to him.

“Thirty years of knowing you all … you guys are my second family,” he says. “I’ve been shaped by my interactions and my relationships. When I look back, the best times in my life will have been on that set.”

The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air ran for six seasons, from September 10, 1990 to May 20, 1996 and was instrumental in launching Smith to superstardom. Avery died in 2013 at the age of 68 after suffering complications from open-heart surgery.

    1. That’s heavy. Uncle Phil was the next James Evans (Good Times for you youngins). So was Cliff Huxtable but we’ll leave that alone. Hard to believe it’s been so long.

      1. Cosby was crap regardless of the crimes…James legitimately shocked me by playing a Judge with a Southern-style childhood, but also wearing wigs and dancing strangely (IMO) to Temptations, etc.

          1. Why do all you famous people think it’s ok to use the F word when talking.
Especially women. It just shows you deeper in the gutter. Everytime I hear one of you cuss it’s the last time I ever watch another thing you’re in. It really disgusts me. There is absolutely no reason to talk like that.
It really shows how ignorant you are.
This message I’m trying to get across to all you foul mouthed people will probably fall on deaf ears, further showing your ignorance.

    2. They need to bring the show back for a season and add a serious tone to it about today’s world along with a few funny episodes. Or even a box office movie Plenty of people that can fill in for phil.

    3. Yed i agree with the lady about the language attire…you would think when one speaks he or she pays attention to the vulgarity of their words and the reaction of the people they speak too. The tongue is a 2 edged sword it blesses or curses…..which in any case has consequences.
