Lil Durk is giving back during the global pandemic surrounding COVID-19. Back in his native Chicago, Durk donated free meals to health care workers on Friday (April 24).
With the help of PHLAVZ, Durk and his team visited Chicago’s Rush Hospital and donated meals to those individuals on the frontlines dealing with the deadly virus.
“I been living down in Atlanta, but everyone back home has been in my thoughts, especially those doing something for the community and all the neighborhood heroes,” Durk told HipHopDX. “I thought about all the first responders putting their lives on the line to help out and it inspired me, so I took a jet back to Chicago to show my thanks.”
The “All Love” rapper added, “We partnered up with PHLAVZ and bought 100 meals to donate to the Rush University Medical Center to show love and inspire our community to be strong and help one another out through these times.”
Additionally, PHLAVZ came back later in the day to donate 100 additional meals to health care workers for pickup later that night.
Durk’s generosity joins a long list of celebrities who have been giving back to their communities in the midst of COVID-19 gripping the country.
Eminem donated food to health care workers earlier this week with a nod to his famous “Mom’s Spaghetti” line from “Lose Yourself.” He also launched the “Love Your DJ” contest for Motor City DJs that will provide his own stimulus payments and a chance to have their music played on Shade 45.
In Houston, Slim Thug donated hand sanitizer to METRO bus drivers and police after he fell ill due to COVID-19. Others such as Ja Rule, Cardi B and Rihanna have made their voices heard in supporting those on the frontlines with various donations in regards to personal protective equipment, food and more.
