Eric “Eazy-E” Wright would have turned 55 on Saturday (September 7). To commemorate the occasion, the N.W.A legend’s family held a public ceremony to unveil his new tombstone at the Rose Hill Memorial Park and Mortuary in Whittier, California.

His son Lil Eazy-E invited the public via Instagram last month and revealed it was a surprise for Lil Eazy’s sister Erica Wright. 

“Come n celebrate this great accomplishment n Birthday surprise my sister @wrknwn0feelns has done for my father N the family with the help of @officialcemeterytim,” he wrote in the caption. “BIRTHDAY CELEBRATION TO FOLLOW THAT NIGHT CHECC MY STORY DAILY FOR INFO. MUCH LOVE.”

The aforementioned “Cemetery Tim” shared a photo of Eazy’s old tombstone to his Instagram account on Friday (September 6).

According to several Instagram posts, Eazy’s new tombstone is more elaborate but contains the same text as the first one, “We Loved Him A Lot But God Loved Him More.”

The updated version, however, features his signature red logo, autograph, the title “The Godfather of Gangsta Rap” written in Old English and several iconic photos of the late gangsta rap pioneer. Toward the bottom it reads, “We Put Compton On The Map.”
