Public Enemy hype-man and VH1’s reality-star phenom, Flavor Flav, will be served up at the Friar’s Club to receive the honor of being roasted by his friends and colleagues, by the folks of Comedy Central.

“We only roast the ones we love and the world is clearly crazy about this guy,” said Elizabeth Porter, senior vice president, specials and talent for Comedy Central. “This event will be full of surprises as Flavor Flav is going to experience a whole new kind of love in this Roast.”

After a successful run in the 80s and 90s with Public Enemy, Flav was picked by VH1 casting to star him in the third season of “The Surreal Life” in 2004. He took a liking to his co-star Brigitte Nielsen, which spawned their own VH1 spinoff show “Strange Love.” After that relationship fizzled, VH1 was there to pick up the pieces and create another spinoff, “Flavor of Love,” which featured the rapper in a search for true love among a bevy of female contestants.

“The Comedy Central Roast of Flavor Flav” will air on Sunday, Aug.12 at 10 p.m. In the meantime, Flav, aka William Drayton, is working with Public Enemy for the Rock the Bells tour.
