HipHopDX’s KXNG Crooked was at the 2019 BET Awards and caught up with YBN Cordae on the red carpet. During their chat, the two lyricists expressed their mutual respect for each other and discussed Cordae’s new single “Bad Idea” featuring Chance The Rapper.

“I feel like it’s a real dope record,” he told Crooked. “It’s a good summertime vibe, and it’s different from the stuff that’s out there.”

Crooked then asked about the creativity involved in Cordae’s videos. According to the 21-year-old MC, it’s simply a matter of being true to himself.

“I don’t even really try to do something different,” the YBN member explained. “I just do what’s authentic to me. If you can do something that’s authentic to yourself, how you feel as a person, then it’s gonna be different than everybody else because everybody’s different.”

The host of Crook’s Corner capped off the conversation by asking Cordae about the first rap song he ever memorized. The rising star responded by spitting some lines from JAY-Z’s “Diamond Is Forever.”
