Los Angeles, CA

El-P and Killer Mike — the motley duo collectively known as Run The Jewels — has been hard at work on their forthcoming album, the simply titled Run The Jewels 4 (or RTJ4).

In a recent newsletter, Mike and the Def Jux founder revealed they’d recently spent some time at Rick Rubin’s Los Angeles studio to “keep shit moving.” They shared a photo to their Run The Jewels Instagram account last month, immortalizing their week-long visit.

“Thanks for letting us spend the week recording in your studio, Rick,” the caption read. “Be back soon… #RTJ4.”

In the newsletter — dated Tuesday (May 28) — El and Mike promised their fans the next album was going to be their finest work, but it’s unclear how involved the Def Jam Recording’s co-founder is on the project.

“We’ve been going hard on RTJ4 and have a genuine excitement to share new music with you all,” they said. “We stand behind our statement that this record is going to punch you in the fucking face and burn everything in its path. We thank you for your continued patience as we put together what we believe will be our best record yet.”

In March, El’s wife, comedian Emily Panic, jokingly tweeted RTJ4 was going to sound like Lil Wayne’s Rebirth, which isn’t exactly known as Weezy’s best.

RTJ3 was released in December 2018.
