Kendrick Lamar enlisted the help of Brazilian tattoo artist Davi Escobar for a recent coverup job. According to an Instagram post from the Pinheira-based tattooist, the session took place in Los Angeles on April 19 and lasted roughly 16 hours.

“#tbt Epic session with Mr. Lamar LA April 19,” Escobar wrote in the caption. “were two days of work in total 16 hours including drawing and tattoo sessions to make his coverup tattoo. Thanks for your trust @kendricklamar and all your team for the help @parsons @dupreemccall was a great time.”

Accompanying photos show off K. Dot’s new ink, which covers the majority of his right forearm. In an article with Time Out São Paulo, Escobar marveled at tattoos’ journey from “bad” to “cool.”

‘Today, tattoos are more commonplace – they’ve become cool, hip, modern, even if some prejudice still exists,” he said. “Tattooing’s path from prejudice to fashion leaves you pondering a few things, and that’s something I want to put out there.

“I paint this because it relates to my work, but it also brings other things to light, beyond tattoos. Prejudice, and how one thing becomes another, how something bad can become cool.”

Kendrick’s latest piece covers up his old “Hustle Like You Broke” tattoo.
