Los Angeles, CA

As promised, DJ Khaled has dropped the new visual for “Higher” featuring John Legend and the late, great Nipsey Hussle. Beginning with the words, “In Loving Memory of Nipsey Hussle,” the Eif Rivera-directed video was filmed in Inglewood, California, near Nip’s old neighborhood.

In an eerie coincidence, Nip spits about loved ones who have passed on, obviously not knowing his time would be up shortly after this video was filmed. It was shot only a few days before he was mercilessly gunned down on March 31.

“Dance with the devil and test all fate,” he raps.

The song is available on Khaled’s Father Of Asahd album, which was released on Friday (May 17). Check out the “Higher” video up top.

Only a few days before Nipsey Hussle was gunned down outside of his Marathon Clothing store in Los Angeles, he shot a video for DJ Khaled’s upcoming single “Higher” featuring John Legend.

In the wake of Nip’s death, Khaled has decided to donate all proceeds from the track to the slain rapper’s two young children, Emani and Kross. He made the announcement via Instagram on Wednesday (May 15).

“Recently, I embarked on a soul-searching journey down a road I never thought I would travel in a million years,” he wrote. “It began when a tragedy robbed the world of an enlightened soul, a brother, a father, a partner and my friend, Nipsey Hussle.

“Just days prior, he shared his energy and positivity with me on a video set for a song called ‘Higher.’ After much prayer and reflection; and with the full blessing of the Asghedom family, I am sharing that moment with the world.”

Khaled continued, “The very title of the song reminds us that vibrating on a ‘Higher’ level was the essence of Nipsey’s soul. It is in this spirit, of moving forward, of preserving his mission that I, my co-writers, producers and label partners are donating 100% of all our proceeds from ‘Higher’ to Nipsey’s children, Emani and Kross. The Marathon Continues.”

Legend tweeted about his video set experience on March 31, the day of Nip’s murder.

“RIP Nipsey,” he wrote. “I just spent Thursday with him filming a video for a beautiful new song we created with Khaled. We filmed in Inglewood, close to where he grew up. He was so gifted, so proud of his home, so invested in his community. Utterly stunned that he’s gone so soon.”

“Higher” is included on the prolific producer’s forthcoming Father of Asahdalbum, which is expected to arrive on Friday (May 17) along with the video.
