After leaving Interscope Records following the release of
his oft-delayed sophomore album Time Is
Money, rapper Styles P has decided to take the independent route.
According to Styles, KOCH (home to artists such as Jim Jones and Prodigy) is a perfect fit: “I
look forward to embarking on this exciting new phase of my career along side
KOCH Records, a company best known for their unyielding interest in supporting
the vision of the artist,” he said on Hot 97. “It feels good to be a part of a team that appreciates hip-hop in its
truest form. I am ecstatic about being in control of my own destiny.”
General Manager and Executive VP of KOCH Records Alan Grunblatt shared Styles’ optimism: “Styles is the perfect KOCH Urban artist. He has a
huge fan base and is ready to go to the next level. We are absolutely thrilled
to have him.”
It was often speculated that Styles’ troubles with Interscope were the direct result of
blackballing by 50 Cent, who said in
the diss track “I Run New York” that he would “push Styles’ shit back.”
