Mafi Atitekpo, Ghana

Lil Jon is turning up his education initiatives by opening up his second school in Ghana.

The Grammy award-winning DJ/producer/rapper collaborated with charity organization Pencils For Promises to launch Mafi Atitekpo DA Primary School. Located in the Ghanan village of Mafi Atitekpom, the school has enrolled 313 students.

“Last year [October of 2017] I went with my family to open up my first Pencils of Promise school in Ghana, and now to have over 300 kids already enrolled in my second school there is incredible,” Lil Jon said. “It’s been really fulfilling to see the impact these schools have made on so many of these children’s and families’ futures.”

To honor his late mother Carrie M. Smith, Lil Jon donated $70,000 to help the organization erect the two schools.

The first school Abomayaw D.A. Kindergarten was launched in October 2017 in the country’s village of Abomayaw and has enrolled 244 students.

“Lil Jon is one of our most loyal and passionate celebrity supporters, from his work in the field to donating his birthday to make two schools a reality, he continues to impact education needs for those in rural communities,” Pencils of Promise CEO Tanya Ramos said.

“We are thrilled to open the Mafi Atitekpo DA school with Lil Jon and can’t wait to see his impact in action.”
