The aftermath of Kanye West’s latest appearance on Saturday Night Live has reignited controversy regarding his support for Donald Trump. Yeezy’s continued use of the “Make America Great Again” hat and a tweet about abolishing the 13th Amendment have sparked outrage.
Fellow celebrities such as Captain America star Chris Evans have publicly criticized Kanye, and the Hip Hop community — most notably Swizz Beatz — has also reacted strongly to Yeezy’s latest MAGA endorsement. Hours after Kanye’s MAGA hat-wearing tweet about the 13th Amendment was posted, Meek Mill bluntly addressed Kanye’s love of the Trump-created catchphrase.
“Make America great again is disrespect,” he wrote along with a link to a video for Kanye to watch.
The accompanying video features an explanation of the Black Codes, which were laws passed after the abolishment of slavery in the U.S. These included the vagrancy laws and convict lease system, which were designed to essentially enslave people again under a different name.

Although Kanye’s original tweet was shocking, much of the controversy likely could’ve been prevented if it wasn’t so poorly worded. His subsequent tweets have since revealed his views are in line with the above video.
“The 13th Amendment is slavery in disguise meaning it never ended We are the solution that heals,” Kanye wrote. “not abolish but. let’s amend the 13th amendment. We apply everyone’s opinions to our platform.
