The music world is still in shock after learning Mac Miller has overdosed at the age of 26.
As the news continues to spread like wildfire across social media platforms, J. Cole has taken the opportunity to drive home some of the points he made on his most recent album, KOD, which HipHopDX called “one of the most important rap albums ever.”
“This is a message for anybody in this game that’s going through something,” he tweeted on Friday (September 7). “If you don’t feel right, if you feel you have a substance problem, if you need a ear to vent to. If you uncomfortable talking to people around you. Please reach out to me.”
According to Cole, KOD is an acronym for Kids On Drugs, King Overdose or Kill Our Demons.
Addiction was the primary concept for the 12-track album. It’s something the Dreamville mastermind dealt with growing up as a son of an alcoholic mother.
Clearly, Miller’s death hit close to home and Cole felt it was necessary to provide another chance to broach the subject.
Cole is one of many artists who have expressed their condolences on social media.
Stop taking drugs
Yeah because most addicts can do just that
Yeah, that will do it every time. This is an illness that is both mental and physical. If it were that easy, it wouldn’t be an addition.
It would be a subtraction.
Sorry about that. I should have checked my spelling. (Addiction) is that better
Still waiting for him to add “Grown Simba” on Apple Music, dammit! Oh, and rest in peace and stuff.
The something I’m going through is thinking you need a damn haircut, J.
Age of dealers are gone. It’s the age of users now when did the game get so messed up that it’s cool to be a user now in the rap game. Sad
