HipHopDX Premiere: Eugene, Oregon native Calvin Valentine has produced music for everyone from De La Soul and Nas to Devin The Dude and Juicy J.

Now, the talented beatsmith has picked up the mic for the new single “Vhs” featuring J Dilla’s younger brother Illa J. The song follows the previously released single “911 Turbo.”

“I wrote ‘Vhs’ at my dad’s house after he broke out all the old home movies,” Valentine tells HipHopDX. “We sat on his porch smoking purple trinity and reminiscing on old times.

“The song is the soundtrack to my childhood. I had recorded the hook but it just wasn’t exactly how I wanted it. So, I had my dude Illa J come through and he killed it.”

The track comes from Valentine’s upcoming album, Keep Summer Safe, which is expected to arrive on September 14 via Mello Music Group.
