Although Ariana Grande had originally appeared to promote her new Sweetener album on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon with just a simple comedy skit, the unfortunate circumstances of Aretha Franklin’s passing put the talented singer in the hot seat.

Insiders at TMZ learned that Grande initially wasn’t with a shotgun performance because Ms. Franklin was one of her biggest idols. That is until Questlove convinced her that having her perform alongside The Roots would be incredible.

The end result was Grande performing one of The Queen of Soul’s most renown hits in “(You Make Me Feel Like) A Natural Woman.” Despite reportedly breaking down in tears following the performance, the studio audience gave her standing ovation for the powerful rendition of the legendary hit.
