Murs has returned with another episode of The Breakdown titled “Mental Health & Hip Hop: Does Your Favorite Rapper Need Help?”
With the recent suicides of chef/television host Anthony Bourdain and designer Kate Spade, mental health has been a heavy topic of conversation.
Murs takes it back to 1982 to look at Grandmaster Flash and the Furious Five’s “The Message,” which he believes was addressing mental health, especially the line, “It’s like a jungle sometimes/makes me wonder how I keep from going under.”
He asks, “Is your favorite rapper crazy or just extremely creative? Is your favorite rapper sick in the head or just sick with the pen? Is your favorite rapper poppin’ pills to feel a vibe or are those pills being prescribed?”
