Down 2 Earth’sAzure is gearing up for his next solo project, Godspeed. Ahead of its release, the HBK Gang representative has linked up with IAMSU! for a new track titled “Kiss A Joint” produced by Mike Gao.
“I felt like experimenting with ‘Su on a melodic hook instead of a verse,” Azure told HipHopDX. “His tone is super fun to mess around with. Mike Gao is like a mentor to me, and I enjoy our chemistry on wax every time.”
“Kiss A Joint” will appear on Godspeed, which is scheduled to drop later this month..
“It’s been a year in the making,” he said of the upcoming project. “I have been tinkering with every other word and snare drum for far too long. I am extra relieved and thoroughly satisfied with the final product. It’s been a testing journey of evolving my style and battling self-doubt with a dash of growing pains.”

While speaking to DX, Azure also described the meaning behind his solo release’s title and revealed the special locations where the music was created.
“The term Godspeed has been a recurring theme in my mind with everything that’s going on in our hyper-digital chaotic planet as of late,” he noted. “It toys with the idea of a word or expression birthing confidence within someone. There is weight to our words, which is an element of rap music that I hope we never lose sight of. That’s some of the science behind the name. I recorded most of the project in Green Day’s old recording facility in Oakland while mixing it at Different Fur in San Francisco where acid jazz was supposedly invented, so hopefully I soaked some much-needed room vibes for this one!”
