Among the contestants to appear on Tuesday’s (May 29) premiere of America’s Got Talent was teen rapper Flau’jae.
Hailing from Savannah, Georgia, Flau’jae revealed to the show’s judges that her father was killed by gun violence before she was born.
“Before I was born, my father he was a rapper. And he died before I was born, so he couldn’t fulfill his dream. So, that’s what I’m here to do,” Flau’jae said, before beginning her audition.
As fate would have it, her father was Savannah 21-year-old rapper Camoflauge, who was murdered in May 2003 as his buzz started to creep outside the local area. His murder still remains unsolved.

As part of her audition, the 14-year-old rapped along to an original song about gun violence and her own personal struggles.
“It’s hard to see the silver lining when the light’s off / But I know that one day I’ma be an icon,” Flau’jae rapped.
Flau’jae was given a “yes” from all four judges, including Simon Cowell who later told the teen “we are witnessing the start of somebody’s career, big time.”
The burgeoning rapper will return to America’s Got Talent for the second round of auditions.
