Sunday 10/15:  E.O.W. (End of the Weak) had their weekly open mic. It was a typical night but they’re gearing up for their one-of-a-kind emcee challenge on Nov. 4. It’s not like the usually emcee challenge where rappers are pitted against each other to see who has the best insults. In this particular challenge, the rounds include written, freestyling based off of a random product chosen randomly, beat juggling where they play everything from a Just Blaze beat to Polka and teams, where emcees tag team. E.O.W. is also getting ready for back-to-back showcases, starting the weekend following the emcee challenge and continuing through December.

Monday 10/16:
This was the day where closing arguments were presented in The Source sexual harassment trial. We all know the outcome of that.

Tuesday 10/17:
All in One Entertainment presented their monthly showcase, Faces in the Crowd. Artists and industry executives and insiders gather at New York City’s Club T-NY where artists compete for a prize package that will increase their overall exposure. Visit www.facesinthecrowdshowcase.com for more information.

Wednesday 10/18:  The Ave Magazine presented their Prospect Park showcase/competition at the Bowery Poetry club in Manhattan. The quarterly magazine features unsigned talent in the Prospect Park section of their magazine. Contestants included The Co, Candace Jones, T.L. Cross, Jus Evolution and Deep. The talent ranged from rappers to bands to singers and the winner was T.L. Cross with his soulful voice and innovative music. The winner of the showcase will get a more in-depth feature in the next issue of The Ave.

Thursday 10/19:
DJ Evil Dee was on the mix once again as he was at Rewind in New York City. He was spinning Hip-Hop all night.

Friday 10/20:
DJ Ultraviolet had her monthly Ladies Love Hip-Hop party in Philly. It’s a party put together by ladies with performances by ladies, and DJ Ultraviolet on the wheels of steel. Ladies do love Hip-Hop and this is a nice environment for them to come together and have fun. Men are invited, of course. Nothing beats the typical Hip-Hop sausage-fest so men are also encouraged to come out, meet nice ladies and have fun.  Hit up Miss Ultraviolet and find out more about it.

Saturday 10/21:  I had a lot of fun tonight thanks to fellow journalist, Kevin Clark. He recently interviewed Dres (of Black Sheep) for his new album. The interview went so well that Dres told him to come hang out one day, and Kevin invited me. Dres was hosting a party at Club Rebel, in New York City. I hung out with Dres, Kevin, Preme (Dres’ boy) and Nicole Price (Dres’ publicist). We kicked back and talked about various things, but of course, the state of Hip-Hop came up. In case you didn’t know, his album 8WM/NOVAKANE is out and really good. Stop complaining about Hip-Hop being dead and support real talent.
