Hip-Hop, the global phenomenon is a
culture rife with happenings on a regular basis. Sometimes it has its highs,
sometimes it has its lows, but the one thing that never changes is that Hip-Hop
is a constant. Let’s take a look at last week’s events.
Sunday 9/10 – Today’s
Flavor of Love recap is going to be brief. Two words, New York. Of course there
was the usual drama but things stirred up times 50 when New York returned to
help Flavor Flav make a decision in eliminations. In the end, Flav cut Beautuful
and Nibblz, and added New York back into the competition. Angered by his
decision, Buckwild decided to walk off the show, not surprisingly, the
“Buckwild,” ghetto persona that she had been feigning through out the season
thus far had disappeared. Flav called her out on it as she said she would be
uncomfortable with New York in the house in a very proper, timid, non-buckwild
kind of way; very interesting. With crazy New York back in the game, what I
thought couldn’t get any funnier, is sure to guarantee more laughs. It’s tragic
tomfoolery. But I can’t front, Flavor of Love is a serious guilty pleasure.
Monday 9/11 – Reports
came in today there was drama with 50 Cent (what else is new?) at the Baby Phat
fashion show on the opening day of New York Fashion Week. Thanks to a hook up
from “The Socialyte” on myspace, I got a recap of what happened.
As told by “The Socialyte’s”
friend.

50 Cent almost got into a fight right
before the show started. It was a scuffle between 50 and an agitating guest. It
wasn’t big, security broke it up fast. That was about it. Other than that, the
clothes were okay and some of my favorite models were in the show,
Emanuela, Omahyra, and Alek Wek.
Other celebrities that attended were Janice Combs, Nicole Murphy, Stacy J, Trina,
Lil’ Kim, Amerie, Tommy Hilfiger, Jade, Keenyah and Jay Alexander (from Top
Model). Kimora and the girls looked cute but the youngest one didn’t want to
walk down the catwalk. The show was not organized and was 45 minutes late. But
I had fun and 50 Cent is dreamy.
There you have it folks.
Tuesday 9/12 – Rhymefest
and Boot Camp Clik performed at New York City’s SOB’s. It was a Hot 97 show.
You already know how BCC gets down but if you didn’t know about Rhymefest go
shoot yourself in the foot and then write “I will respect dope Hip-Hop”
repeatedly 500 times. Seriously though, Rhymefest puts on an excellent live
show. He’s energetic, fun, engaging, and he incorporates jokes (that’s just a
part of his witty personality) to make people laugh and have a good time. He
may even run out into the crowd a couple of times. Bottom line, the show was
hot. Need I say more?

Wednesday
9/13 – This was10th
anniversary of Pac’s death. It’s amazing how time flies. Can you recall where
you were when Tupac died? I can. I was about 14 and I remember being at home
watching TV. My homegirl called me and asked if I had heard the news. I was in
denial, of course, and assured her that it was a rumor because Pac was going to
make it through. Not the case. MTV confirmed what I didn’t want to be true, and
after that, I heard Tupac songs everywhere I went.
In
other news…All in one Entertainment (New York City) presented their monthly Faces
in the Crowd showcase. Artists, A&R’s, Record Execs, and writers
gathered at club T-NY where artists displayed their talent (rappers and
singers), hoping to make connections and get exposure. There were also feature
acts showcased. Amanda Diva rapped and did spoken word, adding a much needed
feminine touch, Lexx9Eleven and his crew really woke everyone up and turned it
into a party, and Interscope recording artist, Brasco, did his thing as well.
This showcase has lead to the signing of four artists within the past year. The
auditions for October are over but for future auditions, and more information
contact Chalant@tmo.blackberry.net.
Thursday 9/14
– Ghostface Killah was ordered to return a $50,000 advance for a book deal he
was given in 2002 (Harper Collins/Regan Books). The book was supposed to be a
memoir but reports say he repeatedly missed manuscript deadlines.
It’s no secret that Ghostface is
sometimes flaky when it comes to showing up for interviews (me being one of
those people). But a book deal? $50,000 dollars? What’s up with that?

Friday 9/15
– You wanted an “encore,” well you got it. It’s been three years since
Jay-Z dropped his retirement LP, The Black Album but it is confirmed
that Jigga Man will be releasing another album. Kingdom Come will be out
some time this fall.
Saturday 9/16
– Did you party with the Virgo’s at the Voodoo Lounge (Brooklyn)? I know I did.
Pumpkinhead and Block McCloud had their annual Virgo Birthday Bash. All Virgo’s
got in free and it was all fun and all love as party people gathered, jamming
to the sounds of DJ DP One and P.F. Cuttin.
