Drake fans have been running wild with speculation ever since boxer Gervonta Davis – the undefeated IBF super featherweight champion fighting in the co-main event of the Floyd Mayweather vs. Conor McGregor card – posted an Instagram video of the two jogging together last night (July 23). A song is heard in the clip that many online assumed was a new Drizzy record despite it not really sounding like the man himself. Unsurprisingly, the rumors turned out to be false.
Internet sleuths soon discovered the track was actually created by a rapper named Marr Grey. The song is an unreleased cut titled “Safe House” that doesn’t seem to have anything to do with Drake. The little-known artist and Davis are both from Baltimore, which could explain the connection.
Erroneous articles have still emerged crediting the record to Drake despite being debunked by Grey himself. The Maryland MC told Complex it was his song and revealed he’s a friend of Davis. He also claimed he used the same producers as Drake, which would explain the similarity in sound.

A user on the KanyeToThe forum, where much of the debate over the song has occurred, looked into the matter too. Grey apparently told this forum member that Neenyo, who produced Drake and Future’s “Plastic Bag,” did the beat.
“Asked about the song,” the user wrote of their conversation. “Said it’s his song “Safe House” unreleased. Told him the song is hard. Thanked. Said it’s produced by neenyo. EDIT: Asked if it’s a drake collab. Said nah.”
With several official new tracks to his name (and a recent Instagram post kickstarting calls for a sequel to 2011’s Take Care), it’s understandable to see Drake fans on high alert. Still, it can’t hurt to be a little more cautious regarding any alleged Drake leaks or previews.
