Beverly Hills, CA

Kendrick Lamar seemingly played it cool when he was pulled over by a Beverly Hills police officer Friday (May 12).

TMZ caught footage of the Compton star in his Mercedes G-Wagon as an officer approached him. Kung Fu Kenny saw the cameras and rolled up the window, but besides his looks giving away the rapper’s identity, the officer radioing that the man’s name was Kendrick Duckworth confirmed it.

After being asked by the site why the DAMN. rapper was pulled over, the cop shared it was because Kendrick didn’t have license plates on his black SUV. After a brief exchange with the policeman, the TDE star drove away without a ticket.

“He had no plates, but he’s fine,” the officer said.

Despite catching flak for his “Alright” lyrics where he says, “We hate po-po,” and his performance at the BET Awards where he jumped on a police car, Kendrick recently sat courtside with LAPD commissioner Steve Soboroff at a playoff basketball game. After the event, Soboroff explained how he has mutual respect for the Grammy Award-winning artist.

“[Kendrick] expresses through his art form his feelings, and I respect that, in Los Angeles, and I think he respects — or I hope he would respect — how seriously we take community policing and understanding people’s views,” he shared. “We can’t police our way out of these issues. These are issues that have to be brought together by like what Maya Angelou says ‘thinking about what we have in common’ … I think that Kendrick and Jay Z and Rihanna and the lucky people I’ve sat next to at these games, everybody that I’ve sat next to certainly appreciates that and every officer that I know does too.”
