Chance The Rapper took to Twitter on Tuesday (May 9) to announce the passing of his Auntie Kim, and to also warn fans of the dangers of Inflammatory Breast Cancer, a rare disease that accounts for one to five percent of diagnosed breast cancer patients in the U.S.

He revealed that his aunt, Kimberly Bennett, lost her battle with Inflammatory Breast Cancer on Sunday (May 7). The National Cancer Institute describes Inflammatory Breast Cancer as “a rare and very aggressive disease in which cancer cells block lymph vessels in the skin of the breast.”

“My Auntie Kim lost her battle with Breast Cancer early Sunday morning. She was a warrior and wanted me to share this…Inflammatory Breast Cancer is commonly misdiagnosed and doesn’t come with the same symptoms,” Chance wrote in two separate tweets.

In the YouTube video Chance tweeted, Bennett shared some of the warning signs of Inflammatory Breast Cancer and encouraged those who have experienced any signs to visit their doctor immediately.

She also recalled being diagnosed with Stage 4 cancer, following a visit to urgent care and then her doctor.

“I knew something was wrong, but I thought it was just an infection…If you ask your friends, they’re going to minimize it,” Kimberly Bennett said. “‘Breast cancer doesn’t hurt.’ I don’t know how many times people told me that. ‘Breast cancer doesn’t itch.’ No. If your breasts swell. If the skin changes texture and it becomes to look thick like an orange. If they all of a sudden get hot. If your nipple that used to lovely poke out starts to invert…Remember the discoloration. And if they swell, by all means, go to a doctor. The goal of this cancer is to kill you.”

HipHopDX sends its condolences to the family and friends of Kimberly Bennett.
