Released over 15 years ago, the film Baby Boy has remained relevant in pop culture long after it hit movie theaters.
And as the film quickly approaches the two-decade mark, Tyrese has revealed on social media that a sequel to Baby Boy is in the works. The crooner and star of Baby Boy shared the news on Instagram earlier this week.
He also gave a subtle nod to the film’s director, John Singleton.
“Sequel to Baby Boy coming soon….. #BabyBoyComingOfAge shout to @johnsingleton,” Tyrese wrote in a caption to his video, which shows a clip from Baby Boy.

Outside of Tyrese’s Instagram post, no other details on a sequel to Baby Boy have surfaced.
Released in theaters in 2001, Baby Boy chronicled the chaotic life of 20-year-old Joseph “Jody” Summers. In addition to Tyrese, the film also starred Omar Gooding, Taraji P. Henson, and Ving Rhames.
News of a Baby Boy sequel comes weeks after another iconic film, Coming To America was rumored to be receiving its own sequel. Despite Eddie Murphy claiming to be unaware of a second installment, it was later reported that Paramount hired the original writers from Coming To America for a follow-up.
