Kendrick Lamar is expected to bring in big numbers with the release of his fourth studio album, DAMN. According to Billboard, the project is projected to push 475,000 equivalent album units as it tops the Billboard 200 chart. These numbers would be the second-highest selling week for an album so far this year, coming second only to Drake’s More Life debut, which pushed just over 500,000 in its first week. Drizzy spent three weeks at the top position before being dethroned by the Chainsmokers this week.
This will be Kung Fu Kenny’s third #1 album. His previous crowns come from last year’s untitled, unmastered and the Grammy-winning To Pimp a Butterfly. His major label debut, 2012’s good kid m.A.A.d. city, peaked at #2.
DAMN. also produced Kendrick’s highest-charting Hot 100 song to date with “HUMBLE.” reaching the #2 position upon its debut. This was the highest entry for a rap song since Eminem and Rihanna’s “Love the Way You Lie” hit the second slot back in 2010.
