Bartow, FL – Kevin Gates will be transferred to Illinois without being extradited, Florida newspaper The Ledger reports.

The Islah rapper had a court hearing yesterday (March 24) in Polk County, Florida where he waived extradition, meaning he is accepting the transfer without a separate hearing to determine if the transfer is justified.

Gates was set to be freed from jail after serving his 180-day sentence for kicking a fan at a Florida show in the fall of 2015. Before his release, authorities found a warrant for weapons charges in Cook County, Illinois from 2013 and he remained behind bars.

The Baton Rouge, Louisiana native will be held without bail in Polk County jail until Illinois authorities pick him up within the next 30 days.

Gates received support from many on social media, including Gucci Mane and French Montana. See their posts below.
