Migos will now be releasing its music under Motown and Capitol Records as Quality Control furthers its joint venture with the legendary company, according to Billboard.
QC co-founders Kevin “Coach K” Lee and Pierre “Pee” Thomas first announced the venture in May of 2015 and now expressed their excitement at continuing the deal with the label that Berry Gordy established in 1959. They had high praise for CMG Chairman and CEO Steve Barnett and Motown Records President Ethiopia Habtemariam.
“Working with Steve and their whole team has been incredible,” Coach K says. “Like all of us at Quality Control, they work hard to push their artists’ visions front and center. It’s a creative and proactive alliance that always keeps the goals of QC in mind. Yes, I’m ready to conquer the world.”
“This is a very exciting time for QC and Migos,” Pee says. “We have been independently building our brand, and though our partnership with Motown/Capitol they have shown us that this is the right home to take our business to a global platform.”
Migos topped Billboard’s 200 albums chart with its Culture album and has the #1 song in the country with “Bad and Boujee” featuring Lil Uzi Vert. They took the country by storm and there was even a petition to have the group replace Lady Gaga as the Super Bowl halftime show performer (to no avail).
Quality Control was founded in 2013, the same year Quavo, Offset and Takeoff dropped their YRN (Young Rich Niggas) mixtape, featuring their standout hits “Versace” and “Hannah Montana.” The Atlanta trio had announced its departure from 300 Entertainment back in September 2015.
Damn they got a lot of hands in them pockets. Plus they gotta split it 3 ways. They definitely not as rich as they want everyone to believe
