John Legend gave his thoughts regarding his friend and longtime collaborator Kanye West taking a meeting with president-elect Donald Trump this week. The Grammy and Academy Award-winning vocalist called the incident a publicity stunt and voiced displeasure over West’s stances.
Legend sat down with French television show Clique on Tuesday (Dec. 14) and offered his take on the meeting. When Clique’s host asked Legend if he’d be open to speaking with Trump, the answer proved that such an affair might never take place anytime in the near future.
“I don’t think it’s impossible to talk to him about issues, but I won’t be used as a publicity stunt. I think Kanye was a publicity stunt,” said Legend. He added, “I’m pretty disappointed with Kanye that he says he would have voted for Trump. I think Trump has been corrosive, his message has been corrosive to the country.”
Legend completed his thoughts by saying that Trump’s promises should concern the country and once more expressed disdain for West supporting the message in any form or fashion.
