Yo Gotti suffered the loss of one of his good friends, his manager Mel Carter, when he passed away yesterday (November 25). The Memphis rapper paid tribute to Carter in a series of social media posts, crediting his friend with encouraging him to expand his career.

Carter served as general manager of Gotti’s CMG label. Blac Youngsta joined the roster last year and signed his contract on a private jet. Moneybagg Yo is the newest CMG signee and dropped the collaborative mixtape 2 Federal with Yo Gotti a few weeks ago.

Carter was also influential early in Kanye West’s career. Yeezy shouts him out on The College Dropout when he says “My nigga Mel brought me to a bunch of labels” on “Last Call.”
