For those who plan on sitting things out this Election Day, the words of Gucci Mane may provide the encouragement needed to hit the polls.
While appearing at Florida Memorial University yesterday (November 7), the Trap King encouraged those in attendance and other young people to get out and vote today (November 8). He touched on both police brutality and mass incarceration while seeking to empower his audience to make their voice heard in an especially contentious presidential race between Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump.
“Young people have an opportunity to make a big difference tomorrow,” Gucci Mane said. “And not just any young people. The young people in this room. Young people of color. Young people who come from neighborhoods surrounding this college. Tomorrow, be down here to vote. Vote not because I’m telling you to. Or not because anybody is telling you to. But vote because this is about y’all future. You can make a vote to stop all the police brutality. You can make a vote to stop all this mass incarceration.”
While speaking on the wide scope certain issues have, Gucci informed those in attendance that he wishes that he had his right to vote, and added that there’s no need to “punish me for the rest of my life.”

“All these issues are not just personal to you and your families, they impact me,” he said. “I wish that I had my right to vote. I feel like after you serve your time, don’t punish me for the rest of my life. It’s something that I already did my time for.”
The Atlanta legend was released from prison in May after serving two years for possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. In the state of Georgia, convicted felons lose their right to vote until after serving their prison sentence and probation.
