Lin Manuel-Miranda has released The Hamilton Mixtape, a 23-track project inspired by the popular Broadway musical.

Some of the songs are original content while others are remixes of pieces from the show. Nas, Dave East, Chance The Rapper, Joell Ortiz, Busta Rhymes, Usher, Miguel, The Roots and more all appear on The Hamilton Mixtape.

Hamilton won 11 Tonys at this year’s awards.

The play tells the story of Founding Father Alexander Hamilton through Hip Hop-inspired music.

Composer and star of the Broadway smash-hit Hamilton, Lin-Manuel Miranda dropped a bombshell on the Hip Hop world today (November 3) after he revealed the extensive list of stars that will feature on a mixtape full of songs from the beloved musical.

Miranda had previously teased some details of The Hamilton Mixtape during a Twitter back-and-forth with Usher, but he has now dropped the whole tracklist and the project looks incredible.

The mixtape is essentially a compilation of some of Hamilton’s most popular songs performed by Nas, The Roots, Chance The Rapper, Wiz Khalifa, Usher, Common, Alicia Keys and John Legend.

Some of the songs on the tracklist (such as “Wrote My Way Out” featuring Nas, Dave East, Lin-Manuel Miranda and Aloe Blacc) don’t feature in the musical in any form, and are entirely exclusive to The Hamilton Mixtape.

Other songs appear to be remixes of numbers on the Hamilton original soundtrack. For example, Wiz Khalifa’s contribution is named “Washingtons By Your Side,” a play on the name of the original song “Washington On Your Side.”

Show-stopper “Wait For It” (originally sung by Leslie Odom Jr.) has been entrusted to Usher, and George Washington’s big number “History Has Its Eyes On You” will be performed by John Legend.

One of the musical’s opening songs, “My Shot,” is the closest the musical comes to offering a posse cut — on the mixtape, this will be handled by The Roots featuring Busta Rhymes, Joell Ortiz and Nate Ruess.

One of the most exciting additions looks like the duet “Helpless,” which will be performed by Ja Rule and Ashanti, a remix that we imagine will have that early-2000s Murder Inc. vibe.

The idea for the musical was conceived by Lin-Manuel Miranda seven years ago when he read a biography of the United States’ first Secretary of the Treasury, Alexander Hamilton, a man who Miranda came to believe “embodied Hip Hop.”

Fans of both Hip Hop and Broadway should very excited to see what these artists have brought to the record-breaking, Tony-award winning musical.

The Hamilton Mixtape can be pre-ordered tomorrow.
