The Inc.’s ‘Princess of R&B’, Ashanti, pulled out of a charity concert in South Africa on Saturday after her cousin was killed by a drunk driver.
The Associated Press reports that Quinshae Snead, 20, was en route to Ashanti’s hotel on Saturday when the car she was travelling in was rear-ended. The collision sent Snead flying from the vehicle, as it rolled over into the path of an oncoming car. The driver of Snead’s vehicle was also injured.
The tragedy is even more saddening because the driver who caused the collision was unlicensed and had been drinking. The Johannesburg police spokesman, Chief Superintendent Wayne Minnaar, said the 17-year-old had stolen his mother’s car. “He was also under the influence of liquor,”Minnaar confirmed to the South African Press Association.
Snead was also Ashanti’s personal assistant, and was on her way back to the hotel, where the singer was preparing for her appearance at the Divas 2006 Concert.
