Nelly’s “Country Grammar” Becomes Just Eighth Hip Hop Album Certified Diamond

Nelly’s debut album, Country Grammar, has become just the eighth Hip Hop album to reach diamond certification, the RIAA have announced.

The organization presented Nelly with a diamond plaque at a Musicians On Call event in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania last night (July 25).

As previously mentioned, there have been just seven other Hip Hop albums to achieve the diamond milestone, which marks ten million records sold. In addition, four of those albums have come from two artists — Tupac and Eminem — meaning Nelly becomes just the sixth Hip Hop artist to achieve diamond status.

The other Hip Hop albums that Nelly’s Country Grammar now sits alongside are Tupac’s All Eyez On Me, Eminem’s The Eminem Show, Tupac’s Greatest Hits, Eminem’s The Marshall Mathers LP, OutKast’s Speakerboxxx/The Love Below, The Notorious B.I.G.’s Life After Death and MC Hammer’s Please Hammer, Don’t Hurt ‘Em.

Nelly later took to Instagram to celebrate the occasion.

    1. nelly best rapper alive. ten milli already sold. drake can only dream about it. take dat take dat. dillema hot in here all classic matirial

    2. Actually the Biggie, outkast and tupacs all only sold 5 million but because they were double albums they are counted twice. FACT

          1. So the only ones to actually move 10 millions units or more in the US is Nelly, Eminem and Hammer

        1. But 10 million people actually bought nelly album and only 5 mill bought 2pac, big, outkast double album

    3. actually pacs greatest hits sold 9.98 million in the us alone all eyes on me sold more world wide where the hell yall getting numbers from wikipedia i bet

        1. Boston Kid YOUR ADUMPASS TOO GET THE FUK OUT YOU STUPID ASWIPE, YOU TALKING OUT OF YO ASS BITCH.LOL 4.99 MILLZ x2 LOL YOUR A STUPID STUPID STUPID AMERICANS LOLOL.

    4. Actually only Hammer and Eminem are technically diamond alongside Nelly. Pac, Kast and Big were double albums which count twice. Respect though regardless…

      1. YOUR A DUMPASS WITH THIS COMMENTS. WHAT THE FUCK YOU KNOW ABOUT MUSIC SALE KID? YO MAMA PAYS FOR YOUR INTERNET AND CLOTHES LOL GET THE FUKK OUTA HERE . LOL DOUBLE ALBUMS SALES 2x LOL YOUR A DUMPASS

    5. Who lied to yall and said 2 disc albums count as 2x sales? If that were the case BIG,PAC,OUTKAST would be double diamond.

      1. You couldnt sell 2 copies if youd press a double album

1 album wit 2 discs counts as 2 sales

    6. Eminem – both single disc, 10 mill sold
Nelly – single disc, 10 mill sold
Hammer – single disc, 10 mill sold

2Pac – both double disc, 5 mill sold
      B.I.G. – double disc, 5 mill sold
OutKast – double disc, 5 mill sold

    7. What about Vanilla ICE? — Did you do some fact checking HHDX? — You will find this had sold 11 mill by mid 90’s.

      1. apparently he’s a joke only your broke ass got cause he went diamond. go back to busing tables or flipping patties or whatever entry level job your ass is gonna retire with

    8. It’s a damn shame Eminem has went pop ever since 2010. He should really give one last album out with that “Psychopath Killer”, “Medicine Man” kinda verses. He went hard on those tracks.

    9. Don’t forget Beastie Boys – Licensed to Ill is also diamond. HipHopDX even covered this last year…

    10. Obviously, as others have pointed out, nearly all of these “hip-hop blogs/magazines” are wrong. 50’s debut album (GRODT) sold over 12 million copies in its first year of release. Also, I’m pretty sure his sophomore album “The Massacre” is well over diamond by now. Dre’s 2001 might be a little under 10 million worldwide but it’s pretty close. Etcetera, etcetera, etcetera …
