Yesterday, July 19, Sonos broke ground on its flagship store in SoHo to establish the consumer electronics company’s continued dominance as a trusted entity for all streaming platforms and given the location, “Sounds of NYC” was an appropriate theme.
Thurston Moore, of the pioneering rock band Sonic Youth, was the creator of the “Sounds of NYC” playlist which featured iconic Big Apple artists such as Beastie Boys, Blondie, Swans, and several other New Yorkers within the Hip Hop space were also on hand to witness the proverbial ribbon cutting.
The “god MC” Rakim, Run The Jewels’ El-P and veteran personality Miss Info mixed it up with Sonos Sound Experience Leader Giles Martin, Nancy Whang (LCD Soundsystem), Kyp Malone (TV on the Radio), Walter Schreifels (Quicksand, Gorilla Biscuits) and they all participated in “first listens” inside the Sonos Listening Rooms with onlookers from the public. The Listening Rooms — seven in total — were individually-designed to simulate the Sonos experience, visually and acoustically inside a home. Through the Sonos Controller app, users can toggle between their favorite streaming services such as Apple Music, TIDAL and Spotify and enjoy all the quality and power their products have to offer.
The store is now open for business and can be found at 101 Greene Street. Flicks of the grand opening can be seen below.
