Apple Music chose Alexander Wang to kick off their new Fashion Channel with three carefully curated playlists by the fashion designer himself, Chill, Hype and Vibe.
For his featured playlists, Wang picked out everything from the sounds of slow R&B to Trap.
“Chill is my go-to playlist when I get home, when I need to decompress, or when I’m having a night in,” the fashion designer told Vogue.com. “Hype—those songs are mostly derived from playlists that I’ve played in a party bus or en route to a festival or going out. They are songs that kick up the energy. Vibe is more a playlist that’s in between, with songs that have high energy and also are great classics. It’s good for having people over, drinks; it’s kind of pregame music.”
When it comes to music and fashion’s interconnectedness, Alexander Wang is where it begins. Apple Music has looked to his passion of music to create the playlists that are now available on the platform exclusively for its subscribers.

Wang picked out tracks from Rihanna, Drake, Juicy J, ScHoolboy Q and even included up and coming rapper Leikeli47’s cut “Fuck The Summer Up” for his Hype playlist.
“I love musicians because they personify their work,” the designer says. “It’s always exciting to see a new, up and coming musician evolve and watch how their physical appearance evolves as their music evolves because of who they’re collaborating with or what designers they start working with. That’s the thing about musicians that I’m attracted to, that their physical appearance and their style play such a big role in how they connect to people. In fashion, the biggest movements that I feel connected to have always been from music, whether it’s Grunge, Punk, Glam Rock, Hip Hop.”
Many of the other musicians Wang picked are friends and collaborators of the fashion designer.
He recently activated his Spring/Summer 2016 campaign to include Vic Mensa, Travis Scott and ILoveMakonnen and it is not unusual to catch Hip Hop artists front row at an Alexander Wang fashion show. He admits to blasting Trina‘s 2002 album Diamond Princess through San Francisco’s most affluent areas once upon a time. He was also in attendance at last month’s Bad Boy Family Reunion Tour at Barclays Center in Brooklyn.
