iLoveMakonnen announced his impending retirement from rap last month, and critics of his latest freestyle on Tim Westwood’s YouTube channel think it can’t come soon enough.
Though he went off the top for seven minutes straight, it was the last few bars — including one where he wonders what he’ll eat for dinner that day — that made the rounds on Twitter and Instagram, thanks in part to a post from Royce Da 5’9 clowning on the rapper and the show.

SMH. God would never allow something like this to happen in Breakfast Club studios without me delivering a word. https://t.co/ErqpGJ6EB2

The “What’s Really On My Mind” refrain at the end of the verse spawned a hashtag that had a few people getting into the spirit of things on Twitter.

The former OVO Sound signee responded to the criticism by admitting that the verse was terrible, but called out other rappers in the process.
Freestyle was trash. Lol y'all kids have the most jokes. Maybe I should've practiced and asks them to send beats how the other rappers do

Done out rapped your favorite rapper, made him scared and have to take his ass to bed early at his house. Trash city is right

Not all commentary for the verse was negative, with some fans giving the Atlanta-based rapper credit for actually freestyling in a freestyle.
why yall goin in on Makonnen,90% of all those rappers write and call it a freestyle and u hear it on a trac leter on let my man rock

Think the definition of "freestyle" got lost somewhere. Lol Makonnen did technically freestyle. Lol idk what ya'll expect.
