iLoveMakonnen announced his impending retirement from rap last month, and critics of his latest freestyle on Tim Westwood’s YouTube channel think it can’t come soon enough.
Though he went off the top for seven minutes straight, it was the last few bars — including one where he wonders what he’ll eat for dinner that day — that made the rounds on Twitter and Instagram, thanks in part to a post from Royce Da 5’9 clowning on the rapper and the show.
The “What’s Really On My Mind” refrain at the end of the verse spawned a hashtag that had a few people getting into the spirit of things on Twitter.
The former OVO Sound signee responded to the criticism by admitting that the verse was terrible, but called out other rappers in the process.
Not all commentary for the verse was negative, with some fans giving the Atlanta-based rapper credit for actually freestyling in a freestyle.

I just heard the so called freestyle he did way better than Desiigner. You need to go watch that embarrasment, that lil nigga was snapping his fingers and everything. Rapping SUCKS! Its funny how Royce and the rest of them diss on MF’s that can actually flow somewhat but never diss the so called “hottest” rappers right now with the biggest hits like Desiigner and Future. They are scared of the backlash but they want to diss on this one hit wonder Makonnen. Double Standards. This freestyle was better than Future and Desiigner freestyle.

i mean if i did a freestyle and Royce called it trash…id respect that…especially coming from him…
that was a terrible freestyle….straight up. not everyone can freestyle but if u are a rapper, you should be able to freestyle and when you run out of things to stay you STOP RAPPING…not continue rambling.. As a rapper….you should be freestyling all the time to work on you craft!
