A fictional town in North Carolina is set to be rocked to the core with the unveiling of FOX’s upcoming drama, Shots Fired. Where as the past couple of years in real life has seen white officers consistently killing unarmed black citizens (and largely getting away with it) the Imagine Television production puts a twist on the societal ill by chronicling the plight of a seemingly racist African American police officer who becomes subject to investigation after he fatally kills a white suspect.
GRAMMY nominated R&B singer/actor Tristan “Mack” Wilds portrays Officer Joshua Beck, a local native of the town who eventually gets quoted saying he possesses “a license to kill these crackers” as the investigation gets underway.
Sanaa Lathan, who is reuniting with her Love & Basketball director Gina Prince-Bythewood, also stars as Ashe Bell, the lead investigator who searches for the truth amidst department corruption and cover-ups.
Stephen Moyer (True Blood), Stephen James (Race) Jill Hennessy (Law & Order) and veteran actress Helen Hunt also round out a cast which also splices Academy Award-winner producer Brian Glazer into the mix. Prince-Bythewood’s husband, Reggie also serves as co-executive producer.
