Freeway explains the meaning behind naming his album Free Will in part one of an exclusive sit-down interview with Genius’ Rob Markman.
All of Freeway‘s albums contain the word “free” in it other than his 2012 release, Diamond in the Ruff. In continuing the “free” theme with his current project, the Philly rapper explains why.
“Us as human beings, we’re the only God’s creation that has free will to do right or do wrong,” Freeway says. “To move forward or stay stagnant. To be positive or to be negative. If you see the album cover for Free Will, it’s a hand with a pill in it and us as human beings have a choice to take the pill or not take the pill.”
The State Property member was diagnosed with kidney failure late last year and is currently on a transplant waitlist, which he addresses in his new music. Free Will was released on Friday (April 29) and is what the “Hot As Ice” rapper considers his best work to date.

“The majority of the time I just go in and do what I feel or I’ll pick a beat because it sounds good or it might be some Hip Hop shit,” Free says. “Some of those records tend to not surface to the mainstream, but this project the fucking beats is incredible. The energy is incredible. It feels like where I’m supposed to be at.”
