Prince’s publicist confirmed that the pop music icon passed away today (April 21). He was 57.

Several members of the Hip-Hop community mourned his loss and paid tribute to his musical contributions via social media.

“I can’t fucking breathe right now,” Questlove writes. As a member of the Soulquarians production collective, Questlove worked on material with The Roots, Erykah Badu, D’Angelo and Common, among others, often drawing from and using Prince’s songs as inspiration.

For her part, Badu wrote “No!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!”upon hearing the news.

Joey Bada$$ referenced one of Prince’s landmark recordings in his comment.

“RIP to a real legend, PRINCE. Definitely one of my favorites of all time… Tonight I’m gonna party like it’s 1999,” the Pro Era rapper writes.

Glasses Malone referenced Prince’s tendency to closely guard his image and music legally when and if needed.
