J.R. just released his debut EP Gang Season in February and spoke exclusively with HipHopDX about putting his hometown of St. Louis back on the map.

The up-and-coming rapper’s Gang Season EP features Trey Songz on the buzzing single “Party Bussin'” and he’s already pushed out a record with fellow St. Louis rapper Nelly on “I’m Just Sayin'” featuring Tiffany Foxx.

“St. Louis has been known for doing big numbers records wise, musically,” J.R. says. “We had a dry spell but I feel right now we’re in a good growing space. We’re in a good growing space. We got a lot of talent, artists, young artists, that are coming up and making some noise in the city. Whatever the direction is; I don’t care if you’re doing trap music or whatever it may be, as long as you’re putting a positive light on the city and bringing that attention back to where we can share those messages out there that we want to. But St. Louis is definitely coming to a point where we’re going to be a powerhouse in the music industry.”
