2 Chainz and Lil Wayne say they had friendly competition when creating Collegroveand instead of trying to go head-to-head, were encouraging each other to step up their game.
Tunechi takes the time in a recent interview with Genius to explain how 2 Chainz impresses him as a lyricist. When asked about the T.R.U. leader’s line “I kiss ya lady, eat her pussy, then kiss the baby” on “Bounce,” Lil Wayne details his reaction to hearing the bar for the first time.
“Excuse me,” Lil Wayne says, pretending to leave the room. “I say some wild shit, but that one, I told him when he said it, but I hadn’t heard that bar ’til the video set, so I hadn’t heard the bar ’til we actually performing it on the song, video for the cameras.”
“That boy fall down,” 2 Chainz says.

“I fell, like the nigga said,” Weezy confirms.
While 2 Chainz has had nothing but praise for Lil Wayne, as the LP was created as a tribute to the New Orleans rapper, Lil Wayne says that he was equally appreciative of how 2 Chainz brought something fresh to the project.
“This whole album, he impressed me,” he says. “You can ask my homies, my closest homies, what I told them. I was like, ‘Goddamn, he’s showing me something, so imagine what the listeners gonna think.’ I was like, not that he can’t, not that he wasn’t rapping before, but damn, he’s next to me and he’s going crazy. It’s music with a message and once I see that and once you hear that, music with a message, meaning it’s something. We ain’t just saying what you wanna hear, we saying something you haven’t heard, it’s awesome.”
