Puff Daddy has released a statement about the charter school he founded in Harlem, New York.

“Creating this school is a dream come true for me,” Sean “Diddy” Combs says in a press release. “I want to impact the lives of young people in my community, and build future leaders. The first step is offering access to a quality education. Every young person should have the tools they need to succeed. All our children should be able to pursue their dreams. That is something I can impact with this school.”

The Bad Boy Records CEO, whose other endeavors include acting, a clothing line and being the face of CÎROC vodka, has founded a charter school in his home neighborhood of Harlem, New York City, according to The Associated Press.

It was announced today (March 28) that the Capital Preparatory Harlem Charter School will open in the fall and will be overseen by Dr. Steve Perry, the founder of the Capital Preparatory Magnet School in Hartford, Connecticut.

The Associated Press reports that Danita Jones, a Florida-based educator, has been hired as the principal of Capital Preparatory Harlem.

Puff Daddy says that creating the school is a “dream come true.”

Shortly after news of the school’s launch was first reported, Dr. Steve Perry took to Twitter to reveal more details about the project.

“I’m pleased to announce that @iamdiddy & I are opening a school in Harlem. We’ve been working together for the past 6 years & it’s here,” Perry wrote before continuing in another tweet. “I’ve been blown away by how committed @iamdiddy has been to the cause of education & honored that he chose to work w the Capital Prep team.”

Perry also revealed that speaker and television personality Iyanla Vanzant played “a huge role” in the school’s opening.
