The NAACP Image Award nominations are in, and Chris Rock leads the pack with his UPN hit series, Everybody Hates Chris.

The rookie series, which chronicles the semi-fictional childhood of the comedian, is nominated for five NAACP awards: Outstanding Comedy Series; Actor in a Comedy Series for star Tyler James Williams; Actress in a Comedy Series for Tichina Arnold; Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series for Terry Crews, and Director of a comedy series for Ken Whittingham.

Everybody Hates Chris will face competition in the outstanding comedy series category from UPN’sHalf & Half, Fox’sThe Bernie Mac Show, Cartoon Network’sThe Boondocks, and UPN’sGirlfriends.

In movie nominations, the race-relations film Crash topped the movie category with six nominations, including Outstanding Motion Picture, Supporting Actress for Thandie Newton, and Supporting Actor for Don Cheadle, Larenz Tate and Terrence Howard. Howard is also up for Outstanding Actor for the rap drama Hustle & Flow.

Coach Carter, Diary of a Mad Black Woman, Hitch and Hustle & Flow are also up for the Outstanding Motion Picture award.
In recording arts, Mariah Carey, Kanye West and Alicia Keys were all nominated for four awards each.

Carey and Keys will compete against each other in all of the main categories: Outstanding Female Artist, Outstanding Music Video, Outstanding Song and Outstanding Album. West, meanwhile, is up against Jamie Foxx and others in the Outstanding Male Artist award.

Finally, Carlos Santana will be inducted into the NAACP Image Awards Hall of Fame, in recognition of his musical and social impact on the national and international scene.

“Carlos Santana is a visionary artist whose work has inspired and motivated people of all races and cultures,”Bruce Gordon, President and CEO of the NAACP, said in a statement.

The NAACP Image Awards will be presented at Los Angeles’ Shrine Auditorium on February 25 and taped for broadcast on March 3 on Fox.
