R&B singer Akon has high expectations for the New Year. After releasing his debut album in 2005, he is putting his entrepreneurial skills to good use, setting up a record label, Konvict Records and venturing into film and jewelry as well.

Akon’s first artist is Rapper Ternt Singer, T-Pain, whose singles I’m In Luv (Wit A Stripper) and I’m Sprung have received heavy airplay.

“We’ve got the Konvict Records popping off – it’s doing very well,”Akon told MTV. “I’ve got my own diamond line that I’m about to start launching in February, so definitely look forward to that. And then of course we’re gonna get into Konvict Films.”

The Lonely star said that his new film company will be creating films ‘based on gangstas locked up in prison’, but is planning on doing it in a way that shows children their stories so they won’t ‘make the same mistake.’

With regards to his music, Akon is set to release his sophomore album, Dark and Light Shadows soon, although there’s no word as yet on an exact date. One last single will be taken from his current LP, Pot Of Gold, and the video for that has just been wrapped.
