Lil Wayne recently appeared on ESPN’s SportsCenter to discuss a variety of topics including, among others, Cam Newton’s controversial walkout at the post-Super Bowl 50 press conference.

“It’s interesting,” Lil Wayne said. “My opinion on it is [that] it’s wack. We supposed to enjoy these people for what they do and what he does is amazing. No one else can do it and it hasn’t been done ever. You not supposed to care about or worry about nothing else. This is entertainment, this is sports and let a person be a person.

“I think that was genuine,” Lil Wayne replied when asked specifically about Newton’s walkout. “Once I saw that, I said, ‘If I was a player on his team, or involved with his team in any kind of way – I love that dude. That’s the way he feel when we lose? He’s that hurt when we lose? Oh my God, I love him. I’m playing for him, not with him, for him.’”

Elsewhere in the conversation, Lil Wayne revealed some of his closest friends who are athletes.

“My best friend who’s an athlete? I have a bunch of them. I’d probably have to say, I’m real cool with DeSean Jackson, him and I talk a lot. John Wall, LaMarcus Aldridge, D. Howard, I talk to Dwight a lot, [he’s] a good guy. Oh and Chris Paul is my brother. I also forgot to say Von Miller. That’s one of my homies, too.”
