Ebro Trades Barbs With Rae Sremmurd’s Slim Jimmy & Mike WiLL Made-It Over Beyoncé’s “Formation” Single

Just 24 hours prior to her scheduled performance at the halftime show of Super Bowl 50, Beyoncé dropped a musical bombshell in the form of her surprise new single, “Formation.”

The track, which is produced by Mike WiLL Made-It, was co-wrote by Rae Sremmurd’s Swae Lee.

After becoming aware of Lee’s involvement with the single, radio personality Ebro Darden of Hot 97 took to Twitter to offer his two cents.

It’s worth noting that late last year, Ebro took issue with Complex Magazine for ranking Rae Sremmurd’s debut project #3 on their list of The 50 Best Albums Of 2015.

“They didn’t write that shit,” Ebro said at the time, alleging that the duo use ghostwriters. “Any of it. Maybe some of it. Mike WiLL-Made It—you know that his name is Mike WiLL-Made It? He made that album. They’re Kriss Kross. It was a fabricated thing that we all liked.”

After passing a somewhat subliminal comment regarding the topic via Twitter, a back and forth broke out between Ebro and Rae Sremmurd’s Slim Jimmy. The latter went on to say that the Hot 97 anchor “is not relevant” and that he needs to motivate himself to some money.

A short while later, Mike WiLL Made-It — who’s listed as an executive producer on Rae Sremmurd’s debut album — weighed in, calling Ebro “lame as hell.”

The entire Twitter exchange, that features Ebro trading barbs with Rae Sremmurd’s Slim Jimmy and Mike WiLL Made-It over Beyoncé’s “Formation” single, can be viewed below:

    1. Ebro is nothing more than a fan with a platform. Being a program director and a radio personality does not mean you have any talent or ability. He just uses his platform and power to hate on people. It’s cool to have opinions though. Everybody does. Ebro’s track record of criticism only shows that he hates on anyone who who doesn’t fit into his little box of what he likes. What’s he gonna do when his platform is gone?

      1. all these radio “personalities” wanted to be artists at one point or another. that’s why they criticize certain people so hard. but at the same time, radio doesn’t have the power it had in the past so this dude opinion don’t matter outside of his own circle

      2. What are you talkin about stupid?? The music he’s “hating” on is pure trash. And he’s trying to say they didn’t write their own shit. That’s not hating if he legitimately thinks their music sucks (which it obviously does). Yeah, he’s a program director….ok? Acting like he’s a nobody. Who are you??? Well at least you have your “platform” in the HipHopDX comment section to give your shitty opinion, LOL!

    2. Just heard that new “song”… its fucking embarrasing. MikeWillMadeIt more like a LittleKitMadeIt it fucking sucks. It shows that it was written by a little kid. I GOT HOT SAUCE IN MY BAG SWAG. wtf?!?!

    3. Them dudes are Trash but Ebro is the biggest clown. Destroyed NYC radio but still has a job. Probably homo with one of his corporate bosses on the low.

    4. MikeWill is a typical beat maker, not a producer. This Hip Hop shit is getting ridiculous. Hip Hop died long time ago. Nas was right. Now its full of non-talented imbeciles. Imagine that MikeWill “producer” collaborating with a country artist…. he wouldnt know where to start because you actually have to PLAY INSTRUMENTS.

    5. I dont wanna hear some little 14 year old looking kids singing SHE’S DANCING LIKE A STRIPPER… then they turn around and advertise that to the CHILDREN because these are some little kids man. MikeWill is a scumbag for supporting and producing that crap.

    6. These kids are an easy target and Ebro knows it… I actually enjoy Rae kids and I’m actually surprised their career is bigger than I thought. There is plenty of other terrible acts out and Ebro just picked an easy target even though he is apart of the system he criticizes.

    7. Yeah…Ebro is what 35+ and what he and a lot of the older guys don’t get is that THEIR OLDER…completely in another era. They don’t understand that It doesn’t matter what they don’t like because they are a decade removed from the demographic that Is buying the music (15-25) and they are not even in the age demographic that influences or relates to the music that they are hating on. It’s the equivalent of your parent’s being radio host judging hip hop…all they would say is negative stuff about the music because they are looking at it from a biased view from the start.

      1. You sound stupid and commercially brainwashed as fuck, not to mention your opinion is way off base. The demographic of age is actually 21-40 that’s actually buying the music, which is the actual influential demographic. The age of 35 ain’t old at all, maybe to a very immature minded person like yourself, but 35 is still fairly young. Yall need to get off this age complex bullshit. It’s TOO MANY “older” artists who are actively and commercially selling music, making the beats, and sitting behind the scenes navigating this shit as there are younger ones. Hip-Hop is for everybody!! So all that young vs old bullshit everybody so quick to thoughtlessly push in these blogs make you sound wack as fuck, unintelligent and uninformed. Cut the shit.

    8. We not comparing them to EPMD or Mobb Deep…they are good for this era, but lyrically it wont stand the test of time. Older people (people my age) need to understand rappers aren’t lyrical anymore, they are just about melody and pop culture and turning up, I adjusted my ears years ago, but when ever I want to hear some timeless music, or some lyrics I go back to the old school stuff, the new stuff is just filling a time slot, its not about lyrics and authenticity anymore. Here today gone tomorrow, the new generation listens to albums for about a week then they want a new one. Beacause everything is so cookie cutter now…but im still hearing shit in old Wu Tang, Diplomat, albums that I didn’t get back when it was new, because the rhyme schemes and flows were intricate back in the day not so much now.

      1. Yo thanks for settin an example. People act like they gotta strictly listen to 90s shit or modern shit. Act like they gotta exclusively listen to lyrical shit or turn up shit. Have some fuckin variety nigga!

    9. Ebro’s point was they didn’t write shit on their album & if you heard homie trying to diss Ebro it was proof they have no skill whatsoever in rhyming. They’re a creation of Mike Will. They put out good music to party to but he didn’t feel it was in the top 5 as far as albums go. Has nothing to do with age.

    10. Ebro never actually said their album was trash. He just said it wasn’t the third best album of 2015 – which it wasn’t. That’s not hating, that’s stating an opinion. If Ebro is so irrelevant, which he may or may not be (that’s not up for me to decide), then why is RaeSremmurd and MikeWill so butthurt over his opinion. Just keep making your music and be happy with the fruits of your labor. Ebro’s a radio host. It’s his job to have an opinion. Everyone isn’t going to feel your shit.
